Yemaya Pittsburgh is an organization dedicated to empowering lives, promoting social awareness, and engendering social change through art and education.
The project was founded in 2012 to respond to the diversity and cultural education needs in the Pittsburgh region. Yemaya, the Great Mother of all Living Things, derives from the Western Nigeria Ifa tradition, and represents the ocean, maternity, and womanhood. She was brought to the New World through the African slave trade and is revered through the Diaspora as the Great Mother of All. Yemaya Pittsburgh embraces the values of Yemaya:  peace, love, and community.  By embracing these values in our programs and services, we believe that we can strengthen communities.
